Let us introduce our wonderful Access and Particip

Let us introduce our wonderful Access and Participation Assistant in our groups. Beth is a friendly qualified SLSO. She loves working with children, and especially loves helping children learn through arts and crafts. She is very crafty – there is nothing she won’t attempt to make!

She has over 10 years experience volunteering with children of ages ranging from toddler to primary school. She has experience working in SSPs, as well as support units in mainstream schools. She has a nurturing personality and firmly believes in inclusivity, equality and social justice.

She is an animal lover (particularly cats!), enjoys reading, watching TV and having a chat!

We are so lucky to have Beth as part of our team at The Sociable Group and we can’t wait for everyone to get to know her.

Sunshine, fresh air and a relaxed walk with peers - the perfect way to enhance well-being!

We enjoyed a speculator afternoon with our Junior Advocates enjoying a bushwalk in our local surrounds. It was fabulous to see the kids exploring together, sharing their discoveries, and connecting during the shared experience. And to top it off, the kids discovered the hundreds of tiny crabs residing on the bank of the river! What a fun day!

Celebrating our participants’ passions is an int

Celebrating our participants’ passions is an integral part of our social communication programs. We learn so much from the children about a whole range of subjects - from gaming to gadgets, Marvel to Messi and transport to Trolls.

We watch the joy the children experience when they share their special interests with the group. And we love watching them all connect over shared interests.

Often, Neurodivergent individuals are encouraged to curb their passions and expand their areas of interest. However, we know now that this has many negative ramifications. Engaging in and sharing special interests is central to sparking joy, developing attention, fostering learning and deepening connections.

It was all about regulation and regulatory strateg

It was all about regulation and regulatory strategies this weekend in our Building Bonds, Social Advocates and Junior Advocates groups.

The kids and teens amazed us with their knowledge about regulation and discussing their favourite ways to regulate. They also made some pretty great fidgets, stress balls and calming jars.

It is time to throw away the rule book when it comes to play, because:

•there is no one way to play.
•there is no right way to play.
•all play styles are valid.
•the underlying goal of play is enjoyment.
•Neurodivergent play styles are DIFFERENT to neurotypical play styles, NOT disordered.
•independent and parallel play are equally as valid at collaborative play.

Opportunities to play authentically are essential for a child’s well-being and development. In our weekly social groups, our participants’ individual play styles are celebrated and accepted. We encourage authentic and natural play to foster positive well-being and regulation, and to promote joy, communication and connection.

We are currently half way through our Teenagers In

We are currently half way through our Teenagers InterAACtors group and what a fun time we’ve been having. Our six incredible teenagers have been attending weekly groups with their equally incredible parents & carers to experience positive social engagement and interaction with other AAC users while developing both the individuals and communication partners confidence and skills.

We can’t wait for the next 5 weeks!!!

New Year.
New Friends.
New Home.

We have hit the ground running in 2024, commencing 6 x weekly social groups for children and teens!

In our various Building Bonds groups, catering for primary school students, tweens and teens, our participants are exploring, playing and connecting with new friends.

Our Junior Advocates are celebrating Neurodiversity, sparking confidence and joy, while playing and having fun with buddies!

Our teens are championing difference, cultivating self-advocacy, and finding friends while enjoying lot of fun experiences in Social Advocates.

And our InterAACtors are developing their independence and AAC mastery in a fun, engaging social setting with peers!
